Despite the fact there'd likely be 'ambient' sound and dramatic music that you'd usually hear in trailers, I'd like there to be a song incorporated into it somewhere. And I could imagine a rather slow, sad song within there if it sounds too 'empty' without one.
Possible songs include...
My Skin - Natalie Merchant
I love the solemn mood of the song as well as the sad, heart-breaking lyrics which could really blend in well with the tragic part of my trailer.
Mark Owen - Wasting Away acoustic version
I also love the original 'rock' version of this song, but in order to get the more 'saddening' side of the song, the poignant piano melody would fit best. I also love the lyrics and Mark Owen's distinctive voice fits in so well, yet if I use the whole song, I'd have to either dub it myself or perhaps just use a fan-made instrumental version with their permission.
Her Name Is Alice - Shinedown Instrumental
I think this song's instrumental piece would be fantastic for a contrast of gentle 'creepiness' but also powerful drama when the electric guitar comes to play. I could use instrumental versions of songs I love so to make way for the dialogue; especially since it'd mainly be dialogue driven.
Alice Madness Returns: Red Queen OST
I love the creepy and sad undertones throughout this song and there's such a graceful movement to it too. If I was to use it, it would have to fit in with a sort of 'depressive' theme of the trailer.
Lana Del Rey - Young and Beautiful Instrumental
I LOVE this song, and wondered how the instrumental version sounded like; and it's just as beautiful as the original! I do love the more dramatic instrumental point at the half-way point. There's always a 'dramatic music' part in any trailer :D
PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love
This song was recommended to me and I love it! It's so sexy and moody and the lyrics such as 'laid with the devil' could really connote to a lot of the ideas of my trailer with the protagonist doing 'dark deeds' to a sense and it all comes back on her in the end.
Sleepthief with Jody Quine- Tenuous
Priscilla Hernandez - The Underliving
I love the almost 'tribal' sound of the drums in the opening of the song, in contrast to the soft singing, suggesting, almost magic and the supernatural. This could appeal to 'Alice' and her imagination she tries to make alive through the fantasies she tries to bring to life. I also just love the personality behind the voice of the singer :)
Mark Owen - Kill With Your Smile
I find this song so sexy! Do excuse the naughty language, but I think that adds to the sexual nature of the song, and it relates A LOT to Alice's situation. However, if I use this song, I'll only have to use 15 seconds since I can't find an instrumental version! What a tragedy!
I really like the sounds of the two alice tracks. The Shinedown track is something that could be used when the violent scenes occur and then contrast it with the sad empty vibes of the alice madness track. The PJ Harvey track would also be really good in terms of the relevance of the lyrics and could also be used when the violence happens too. Could use the part when the track kicks in after she goes 'yeah alright'
ReplyDeleteomg! that's a fantastic place to kick-start the PJ Harvey song! I do ADORE that song! I just need to use it wisely :3 Thank you SOOOO much for the ideas Paige!
