“It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end… because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing… this shadow. Even darkness must pass.”

Drafting and Planning: More Trailer Ideas and Sources of Inspiration!

I've always loved actors who physically transform into their role through make-up as well as costume, such as Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter; so any excuse to get my actors in theatrical make-up, I will grasp with both hands!
Having been inspired by such actors, I decided to delve deeper into make-up tutorials and such, which bought me to finding Klaire De Lys who's make-up art inspired me greatly, especially for this trailer.

I mentioned, in passing, the idea of the 7 Deadly Sins in my previous post, and she 'personified' each sin through make-up which inspired me to perhaps incorporate this idea in my trailer:

Lust:

Gluttony:

Greed:

Sloth:

Wrath:

Envy:

Pride:

(Here's Klaire's blog for those interested: http://www.klairedelys.com/2013/05/10/seven-deadly-sins-lust/)

And from this I thought, perhaps the people dancing in the 'masquerade ball' could embody the Seven Deadly Sins, and perhaps matched with their complimenting Heavenly Virtue (I haven't found anyone who did make-up interpretations of the Heavenly Virtues yet; perhaps because when you imagine heavenly things, you think they're as pure and clean as a baby. But even pure things can have some theatrical flare!). If I take on this idea, then the Sins with their matching Virtues would be:

Lust and Chastity

Gluttony and Temperance

Greed and Charity

Sloth and Diligence

Wrath and Patience

Envy and Kindness

Pride and Humility

Now, the point of the Deadly Sins and Heavenly Virtues possibly being involved in the trailer is for the narrative, in which I have multiple ideas...

Idea A:
The 'wretched' woman became from Queen to Wretched from breaking her principles as Queen and as a person by serving herself and her impulsive cravings or emotions (probably from something terrible happening to her. Maybe someone overthrows her because of her new bad behaviour or something like that.) and the masquerade ball embodies the 'dance' and 'conflict' her conscience and temptations had. Maybe it shows how she's now 'epitomising' her lusts rather than her people. Perhaps if anyone was to enter the Queen's land (who wasn't a sin or virtue) the sins and virtues would toss the person around, sort of fighting over them. But maybe the Queen even locked away the Virtues so they'd stop making her feel guilty about her Sins. This Queen certainly has a heavy weight to bare... (though we still need to find out what this 'weight' actually is and how it started...) Oh! Or if I can't get an extra 7 people for the Virtues, then maybe there's just Sins lurking about, showing how the 'Queen' is only serving her weaknesses, AND if it's just the sins on their own, maybe it's more of a circus than a masquerade ball! I'll need some feedback from others to see where the best course of action is...

Idea B:
The 'Alice'-like protagonist (lets call her that) made her own little 'Wonderland' in her head because of mental trauma from the past, in which the 'Queen' of the imaginary land is her innermost self who'se...the aggressor, I guess, who's 'hosting' the dance, and she needs to 'change' and 're-discover' herself to save herself. She fell into the 7 deadly sin path from all the traumas she had in her life. Perhaps the Queen became 'Pride' because it's pride which justifies doing all the other sins. And in a ball, you can't imagine the deadly sins playing nicely with the virtues, so I don't imagine the dancing would be ordered and perfect (like what I mentioned near the end of Idea A).

Idea C:
A completely DIFFERENT idea in which we follow 7 different people who go through problems and fall into a deadly sin and they need to find that virtue to balance it out again, perhaps they help each other. But this is my least favourite idea. But it'd be interesting still.

I'm just fascinated by the concept of the Deadly Sins and Heavenly Virtues, reminding us that we're human and can all fall into temptation so we can't really judge each other since we're all guilty of being weak at times (though some make worse mistakes than others)- but it's that which makes us so interestingly human!

But I'll stop waffling on and being all philosophical about these things. But I enjoyed exploring these ideas! It's so fun!
I'd like to make these ideas happen, and I'm sure I could if I put my whole heart into it! Its only money, whether people are available, and where I could film that're my limitations.... that and my imagination :D
