The 2003 movie of Peter Pan has become my new movie obsession since following the work of actor Jason Isaacs the past month; he plays Mr Darling and Captain Hook in the film (he also played Lucius Malfoy from the Harry Potter franchise). I used to not like this movie at all when it first came out (I used to be quite a cynic if you'd believe it and didn't like the repetitive 'I do believe in fairies, I do, I do.' But now its one of my favourite scenes. But I always remembered Captain Hook most of all...) however, when you watch something from your childhood, you often get a new perspective of it. And since I've grown up a little bit, I'm now obsessed with it. I watched it about 5 times the past few weeks (and I'm actually watching it as we speak!); it's such a beautiful film.
So I took the liberty of checking out a few of the posters; and like the story, acting and music, they're gorgeous:
This is the main poster out of the collection that I love. Everything about it almost 'swims' to the centre with the quote 'The timeless story as you've never seen it before'. The use of lighting, blocking, colour, size and everything is just exquisite to me. This is certainly the sort of 'gathering of characters' sort of poster I'd take inspiration from.
Despite the grammar mistake on this poster ('Let the fight begins') I love the central hook entangled with Peter's sword. This poster very much focuses on the battle between Hook and Peter, but I mainly love the general layout again of the characters and even the beautiful light beaming from the centre.
This is such an interesting poster, with almost a samurai feel to it; subtle in colour but powerful in shape, blocking, setting and lighting. I love the simplicity of the concept; just Peter and the Jolly-Rodger, with the slightest glimpse of the skull on the sail. It could suggest that death is ahead of Peter (but obviously Hook's the one who dies in the end, unfortunately... Spoiler)
This is such a beautiful and artistic poster; but with less of photography and more of Photoshop and digital art I'd presume. But there's loads of use of framing to draw attention to what's important; such as the ivory and flower framing around the moon and Peter Pan. The use of colours are beautiful; full of contrasts of light and dark, blues and oranges.
I love the limited scenery in this poster; concentrating on Peter, then Wendy, then Tinkerbell, and finally you see Hook, lingering in the shadows with his ship, the Jolly-Rodger (not looking so jolly). If I want to show significance of relationship and perhaps blocking, this would be a great source of inspiration too!
I'm always partial to posters which show individual characters and significant quotes they have.
But the quotes they use on the posters aren't the MOST significant; if anything they show more about the drive of the narrative rather than the core of the characters. For example, a quote to better fit Hook's CHARACTER would be 'You will die alone and unloved... Just like me'
